Mama's touching poem dedicated to Daddy

You haunt me, dear one, day and night
In sleep or even open sight.
It's lovely though to think and write
A link between our paradise.
Your eyes speak a hero's heart
Replete with honors, talent, might
But can ambition mold your plight,
Your thoughts and deeds spent aright?
In future years do keep your hands
(I shouldn't bear these foolish trends)
On justice needed by your friends
When bowels dry and springs don't drench.
So noble is an idyll's thought
Beyond himself has wrought and fought.
A triumph's crown for him 'tis naught
Despite the pain, his glory sought.
Haunt me no more, my dear, my love,
Away you fly as free as dove.
Release my feelings here tonight
Still earthly joys are precious sight.
