My Tribute for my Beloved Ateng Nene @ Cecilia Angeles

Ateng Nene is one of my parents favorite & beloved niece. She used to take care of me when I was a baby. She told Evelyn I am stubborn & cry baby. HeHe. during our schooling years she acted as our mentor * Tormentor for her 3 younger brothers. As part of our Family in Malabon. She used to stay with us and during our lunch or dinner together she will be the last one to leave the table as she loves to clear all the flesh from her beloved "Bangus" dishes that Mom prepared. So no wonder she's a great Artist/Photographer even in eating her favorite fish. She's in to DETAILS!!

During the Marcos Era Demo my team from Mapua Institue School of architecture and planning was doing research on University Campuses in Manila. The last university we surveyed was Feati University. We were caught by their security and was herded to the security office. We were branded as student activists! I informed them that we are really Mapua students doing research for our project ans when asked who can vouch for us, I told thme I got a lecturer relative teaching in Feati. They asked who? I told them Mrs. Cecilia Angeles. Yes even in my university days Ateng Nene is there to give me a helping hand! In our adulthood and married life Ateng Nene & family will be with us during Family Reunions or Gathering. The last time I met her was in 2006. She joined us for a Family reunion in Gapan Nueva Ecija. Farewell Ateng Nene! Till we meet again and Test in Peace in God's Mighty Hand. I love you Ateng. Thank you. God Bless. Rene Yacat

Thank you Ninang for everything, I still remember nong nakatira pa ko diyan para mag-aral, meron kayong kasambahay (don't remember her name anymore) . That kasambahay received a letter from home, she asked me to read it for her, nagulat ako bakit ako ang magbasa ng sulat nya and mind you it was in Visayan dialect at hindi ko rin maintindihan and to my surprise "No Read and Write" pala ang kasambahay, I told this to you Ninang, at mula ng malaman mo ito even when you're tired from work (College teacher at Feati University) you spent time in teaching her everyday, pinagtiyagaan mo siyang turuan na parang may Grade 1 student ka.

And even me, diko malilimutan I was graduating in my elementary and I need to participate. You taught me the poem "How do I love thee....Let me count the ways... kailangan with action, drama at me hawak pa akong rose. Ikaw din Ang nagtahi ng damit ko for my graduation. Those were the memories na hindi ko malilimutan, so many to mention.....we will miss you Ninang. Sset Poquiz

I have wanted to see if I can meet your dear mama in person, when I visit Manila next and all this crazy pandemic broke out. It affected everyone in big and small ways. I am so sorry for your loss, MAMA to us all with her creative talents & passion that is so inspiring to many even at her age, her creative juices kept pouring. She will continue to enjoy her role in a different place, and surely will be your dearest guardian angel by your side 24/7. Takes time to heal, cry out if you want. It took awhile to adjust but our dear MAMA now lives IN us. HUGsssss dear Oochie. KK

Dear Evelyn/Dear Oochie - My deepest condolences Evelyn, Oochie. I know how hard to loss some one you care to and loving him . I pray to god to bless her . and she will rest in peace. God bless you all . I will tell and share some of my memories with mam , just to show how kind was mam cecilia to me. “Saint Cecilia S. Angeles” Thirty five years ago I met a humble lady with her simple dress, and her distinguished eye glasses, I met Saint Cecilia S. Angeles in FEATI university it was my first year second semester she was my English professor.

In the first meeting she asked every student in the class on piece of paper to write about himself some think , she took the papers and we left the class. Nothing happened yet . I was 19 years old, I had my camera (Yashica) I used to do some fun with it in the campus, in that time there was trouble with the students in the university, one day the security guards saw me taking some photos. They got my camera & they brought me to the security office then brought me to the president's office, there was the university president, the vice president, the head of the registrar office, the head of guidance center, the dean of engineering. No one talked but the president he said few words, you he point his finger to me, get your camera, you are here to study and he said to the vice president any other mistake deport him. I was depressed shaking and afraid. After I left the president's office, I went to attend my English class. Ma'm Cecilia noticed I am not good I seemed sad.

After the class she talked to me in her office, I told here what happened with me and my camera in the president's office, she told me you will be happy with your camera and you will not leave FEATI, it was a promise from her to me, she did it. Ma'm Cecilia shaped my life in FEATI University and in the Philippines, because of her kindness, care and loving, she was my idol my savior, she was a saint. She was proud of me. She was the one who pin my distinction medal on graduation day. I was too happy I felt in that day my Ma'm was there. In that bad day with the security guards, it was the beginning in photography. Later she invited me to Kameradare meeting, she introduced me to the members, new Kameradare member from Palestine, they welcomed me, they were all nice, kind, they seem they knew me long time ago. The five years I stayed in the Philippines they were all my family and Mrs Cecilia my Ma'm, she was great. After that day I used to attend the Kameradare meetings and all the activities they participate. two year later I was one of the top 10 in Kameradare.

I got photography awards because of her encouragement to me. I brought Kameradare to FEATI University, we have photo exhibitions every year. I have one- solo. The most thing she did, the time I have my photo exhibit in Feati University, she asked me to get all the permits needed and invite the president himself, he came, she stood beside me and talked to the president and proudly told him this is the student one day you were to expel him from Feati, he smiled and said I am proud of you son.

The next year I was the FEATINIAN photographer for one year. Really I was happy with my camera and I finished my education with honor . Because of her I knew so many people all of them are the same as her, good, kind, helpful. Because of her I was able to adapt to Filipino food and live peacefully in the Philippines. I used to write her every now and then, I heard her voice before seven months through messenger. What can I say God bless her and prayers to her soul. Love, Muhanad Qadan

Di nila sure kung totoo or joke nga ba. kaya nakaktuwa maalala. Kim Salvador

Edwin Ladrillo
